Microsoft opens its very own social network.

Following a long period of closed beta testing, Microsoft made the beta version of its social networking, Socl, available to everyone with Tuesday.

Socl initially launched in May. It's a search-meets-social networking website that looks similar to Pinterest than Facebook, and has so far been open only to invited Microsoft employees and university students.

Now, everyone with a Microsoft or Facebook account can access it. The sign-up process is easy and effortless -- users simply connect their account with Socl. They will then start sharing content (e. h. photos, videos, links), and reply to other members' posts.

Socl's forever-scrolling the front page, which shows posts coming from all users, they can feel a bit random. Also, though the website offers categorization by tags, it's not  easy to find the content you want.

All round, Socl is a solid time-waster at this point. As more people join, your website should become more usable, even so the question is: With all the social networks and content-sharing sites around, will this Socl ever reach critical mass?
