Indian bus rape prompts protests.

The status of women have been pushed to the the top agenda in India, after a 23-year-old student was gang-raped over a bus in Delhi.

The case has had huge pressure on the authorities. Many accuse of the authorities of not doing enough to prevent crimes against women.

Some say rape cases are certainly not treated responsibly by the process of law.

“The accused gets out on bail after which it harasses the girl, just often leading her to commit suicide, ”the stated politician Navjot Kaur Sidhu. “Cases just similar to this are now on the increase, because the culprits now have the impression that they're above the law. ”

Within Delhi, they used water cannon to split crowds trying to force their way through barricades outside the Chief Minister’s home.

Five people and the bus driver have been caught.
