Gangnam Style hits 1 billion YouTube views.

The south Korean rapper Psy's infectious viral hit song, Gangnam Style, made history today since the first ever video on YouTube to realize 1 billion views, adding yet another record to the song's juggernaut voyage into mainstream pop.

The tune, first posted on YouTube about July 15, clocked the 1 billion milestone at 4. 50am NZT and YouTube marked the occasion which has a dancing Psy doodle next for their logo.

The song also grew to be YouTube's most watched video past month, overtaking Justin Bieber's Baby video, which previously held the title.

"I didn't even visualize Gangnam Style would get 1 million views, let alone 1 billion views! Is this the Tru-PSY demonstrate? " the rapper said in a very statement.
This has been some sort of whirlwind year for rapper Psy, 34, who is the first Korean crop up (or K-pop) artist to achieve mainstream success in the usa after Gangnam Style, named after the affluent Gangnam District in Seoul, harnessed viewers' attention.

The rapper not too long ago performed for President Barack Obama, met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and won the most beneficial video award at the MTV The european countries Music Awards in November.

The video shows the now outlandishly dressed Psy rap in Korean while performing a low profile horse-riding dance, which has become a pop culture trend, spurring several copycat and parody videos.

The popularity from the song has sparked growing international interest in Asian pop music, throwing a spotlight for the K-pop industry, which now aims to follow Psy into mainstream Western crop up music.
