Facebook Presents New Photo Sync Feature to iOS and Google android.

A brand new feature has been added to Facebook’s mobile app (android and iOS) that’s essentially created to act as a storage locker for photos. Those who opt in to the new Photo Sync ability will have the option to automatically upload photos — as much as 2GB — that are private by default in a “Synced By Phone” album. Users may then choose which photo(s) to express and delete.

The feature has been secretly dormant inside the particular Facebook app since August, with final testing taking place within the last few few months. It’s actually a lot like Google+’s instant photo uploads feature, although Google doesn’t limit users through an upload cap. Additionally, Facebook’s automatic uploads only occur once the app is opened, instead of Google+’s instant uploads.

A different downside to Facebook’s giving is that photos are generally sampled down (to 100KB each) whenever synced over mobile facts, which may be a switch off for some. The common sense behind it, though, is usually obvious, since larger photos would likely burn through data rather quick. Fortunately, users can set Photo Sync to operate strictly through Wi-Fi only, where photos are uploaded at a normal size.
