Gunmen kill 20 in mosque in Nigeria.

NATIVES of Dogodaji village near Birnin Gwari in Kaduna Express have fled in hundreds for you to neighbouring communities as gunmen stormed the actual village and killed not less than 20 people on Sunday day.

Governor Patrick Yakowa, who condemned the killings, has since denied the villagers were murdered after attending the morning prayers in a very mosque within the locality, unlike what was speculated.

The Kaduna Express Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Adenaike, on the other hand, said they could not ascertain how many people killed yet, or revealed what or who was simply responsible for the attack.

“Some people are saying the attackers were Fulani herdsmen have been probably on a reprisal, even so the question is, what reprisal? We couldn’t get immediate information from your area because the network there's very poor, but as soon as we get the details and number of people killed, we will let you recognize, ” he said

Fear features, however, gripped the entire Birnin Gwari County area, over a hundred kilometres from Kaduna town as those who could not afford in which to stay the area were seen causing in droves, together with their loved ones for fear of further attacks.

Sources said the “gunmen suspected to be armed robbers, in the earlier hours of Sunday attacked the actual village in Kaduna State as well as killed over 20 persons. ”

“It was in Dogo Dawa village of Birnin Gwari County Area, some kilometres away from your state capital, it happened in about 6. 00 a. m. When the gunmen opened fire on worshippers returning to their houses in the earlier hours.

“This Sunday morning, the criminals came back and went to the house of the man they suspected to produce identifying them, killed him as well as two of his children as well as cut the hand of his or her wife. They also killed 17 other people in the village. I learnt that those folks they killed were just coming from the early morning prayers.

“I can confirm for your requirements that it was not a robbery operation, but it was the criminals themselves that came for the reprisal because the people are actually identifying them. ”

Another source also said that the killing could be a reprisal because members of vigilance group locally had aided the capture of some robbers have been terrorising villagers and travellers around the area.

“The attackers had written a letter for the community that they were going to revenge the arrest of their gang members, ” a resource said.

But some of the villagers disagreed using the robbery story, saying that the actual attackers had other motives.

“There were series of robberies in your neighborhood, but the community set up a committee to help find out who were responsible and stop it.

“A village head in Dogo Dawa was in control of the committee and, in the past three months, there was no robbery in your neighborhood.

“The criminals must have fled the village after they discovered that they no longer use a base there, ” the resource had said.

Meanwhile, the police and other safety measures agents have deployed personnel in your neighborhood, so as to maintain tranquility and order.
