The BBC is pretty blatant about suggesting that Amy and Rory are going to die in tonight's episode

The BBC is pretty blatant about suggesting that Amy and Rory are going to die in tonight's episode of "Doctor Who".  Since very few fans of the show actually know much about "Doctor Who" history, here is a list of other Companions who've died on-screen:

* During "The Daleks' Master Plan" (1965-1966), two Companions die.  Long-time Companion Katarina is taken hostage and trapped in an airlock with her captor. To prevent the Doctor from giving in to his demands, Katarina triggers the controls -- expelling herself and her captor into space.  The other Companion to die during that episode was Sara Kingdom, who had joined the Doctor during that episode.  The Doctor is forced to activate a device known as the Time Destructor. It accelerates time.  Sara stays behind to ensure that the device works. She is killed as the Time Destructor ages her and she dies.

* During the episode "Earthshock" (1982), long-time Companion Adric dies while aboard a spaceship. The Cybermen had gone deep into Earth's past and rigged the ship to detonate in the Earth's atmosphere -- destroying humanity long before it ever evolved. Adric managed to get aboard the ship and reprogram it so that it did not explode. But he died in the crash as the ship plowed into the Yucatan Peninsula (killing all the dinosaurs).  As the Fifth Doctor transforms into the Sixth Doctor, he whispers Adric's name -- the only time the Doctor mentioned anyone during a transformation.

* In the episode "Voyage of the Damned" (2008), spaceship waitress Astrid Peth sacrifices herself to stop a robot from killing the Doctor.  It's not clear whether Peth should be considered a Companion, as she never traveled in the TARDIS.
