I think Prince Harry 'may been target' for Camp Bastion assault

I think he is the target.
Prince Harry may have been the key target of an attack within the Camp Bastion military compound in Afghanistan, it was claimed currently.

A Taliban commander told Atmosphere News that Harry was the main focus of the attack, but other media organisations reported it turned out in revenge for an anti-Islamic film.

The prince was unharmed, but two US Marines were killed and some more wounded in last evening of attack.

A British soldier from very first Battalion Grenadier Guards was killed by way of a roadside bomb in an not related incident yesterday. He died when his automobile hit an improvised explosive device in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand land. Next of kin have been told.

Harry, an Army captain, is based at Camp Bastion pertaining to his second tour of job.

US officials said the assault was by heavily-armed insurgents and involved an array of weaponry, including mortars, rockets or perhaps rocket-propelled grenades, as well since small arms fire.

Harry was about two km's away with other crew members on the Apache attack helicopters, of which they are a co-pilot gunner, when the attack came about, sources said.

There are not any indications of any British deaths or injuries.

A spokesman for that International Security Assistance Force coalition (Isaf) in Afghanistan said the attack happened near an airfield within the north-east side of the bottom, which houses American forces in Camp Leatherneck.

A Ministry of Defence source said: "After saying this attack was mounted in reaction to the video on Islam, it is entirely predictable that the Taliban have changed their tune to say it was aimed at Captain Wales.

"The insurgency who mounted this attack - most of who were killed by Isaf : were nowhere near Captain Wales, whom with other UK and Isaf personnel was under lockdown. "

Quite a few aircraft, hangars and other buildings with the base were hit and terribly damaged by insurgent fire.

Major Martyn Crighton, from Isaf, claimed: "Nobody would deny that this insurgents are opportunistic.

"Isaf's facilities are safe places, it just so happens that last night insurgents could make a spectacle of them selves and cause some damage.

"But there wasn't any real threat which it was under attack from a substantial group of insurgents. "

Maj Crighton defined the attack as "complex", in that insurgents used AK47-type weapons along with mortars or rockets.

It is understood the militants was able to breach Camp Bastion's perimeter utilizing rocket-propelled grenades before being driven back by forces within the camp.

But he said there was clearly no evidence to suggest perhaps the attack had been planned upfront or if it was purely opportunistic.

Major Charles Heyman, some sort of former infantry officer and army analyst, said he believed the Taliban's motive was the anti-Islamic video instead of to target Harry.

"On balance it is probable they are grandstanding a bit, but the real reason which attack was mounted was to coincide with all the current riots and all the protests which were going on across the world, " he told Sky Information.

Maj Heyman added that military officials must not withdraw the prince from Afghanistan.

"On balance I think the suitable move is to keep them there and let's just access with it and get on with what we have to do for the next year . 5 or so, " he claimed.

An MoD spokesman said: "As Isaf has confirmed there was clearly a significant attack on Camping Bastion yesterday evening. The attack was launched by several insurgents on the eastern part of the runway and there has been some damage to equipment that is still being assessed.

"After speedi action by Isaf forces, including UK personnel, the incident was contained with several insurgents killed as a outcome. A clearance operation including UK and Isaf forces will be conducted and we are in the process of accounting for our individuals, who were subject to a lockdown as may be the case when a base is attacked.

"Isaf have confirmed that a pair of US Marine Corps service personnel were killed understanding that there were some other Isaf casualties.

"With sunshine, work to assess and investigate the attack continues and further details will be made as and once available. "

Harry, who celebrates his or her 28th birthday today, arrived in Afghanistan on September 7.

They have been undergoing training to fly operations in Apache attack helicopters and is expected to start flying missions this week to be a co-pilot gunner.

Camp Bastion is a huge base in the middle of the desert and is distributed to US, Estonian, Danish and Afghan troopers.

It is the logistics switch for operations in Helmand, having supply convoys and armoured patrols routinely leaving its heavily-defended gates, to aid the military forward operating bottoms, patrol bases and checkpoints spread throughout the province.

The MoD spokesman extra: "The threat to all each of our service personnel is continually assessed and all measures taken up mitigate it.

"As we stated the other day, the deployment of Captain Wales may be long planned and the threat to him and the like around him thoroughly assessed.

"We expressed that any risk posed through his deployment, based on the capability, opportunity and intent of this insurgency, is continually reviewed.

"As Isaf offers confirmed, last night's attack was sorted out swiftly by Isaf personnel, including UK forces, and a amount of insurgents were killed.

"A clearance operation may be conducted and work to determine and investigate the incident carries on. "

Isaf confirmed that 18 insurgents were killed in the attack, and one was grabbed.

Tory MP Colonel Bob Stewart, some sort of former commander of British troopers in Bosnia, said he did not think the Prince ought to be pulled out of Afghanistan with the Taliban attack.

He said: "To hell together. Harry wants to go presently there and our soldiers want them there. He should stay. "

But Col Stewart stressed the security considerations regarding the deployment of the Prince were flexible.

"These things aren't from concrete.

"If circumstances really adjust then we'll make different judgement making. "

He added: "Capturing, killing or hurting Prince Harry will be a huge propaganda coup for this Taliban. "
