Walmart admits items made at BD manufacturing facility.
Bangladesh has become a global centre for clothes manufacturing as a result of cheap labour. But the blaze delayed on Saturday highlighted considerations about Western brands selling goods stated in dangerous, overcrowded conditions.
"A supplier subcontracted work to the present factory without authorisation as well as in direct violation of our policies, " Walmart said inside a statement issued on Friday. "Today, we have terminated the partnership with that supplier.
"The undeniable fact that this occurred is incredibly troubling to us, and we works across the apparel industry to improve fire safety education and lessons in Bangladesh. "
Walmart expressed its condolences on the victims' families, as have European chain C&A as well as the Hong Kong-based Li & Fung, which also had orders for the nine-storey Tazreen factory away from capital Dhaka.
