China: Ambassador's car "attacked" by protesters.

The car carrying US Ambassador to China and taiwan was on Wednesday attacked here by a group of about 50 anti-Japanese protesters, an incident that was described by Beijing as an "accidental case".

The Ambassador, Gary Locke, did not sustain virtually any injuries.

According to US officers, about 50 Chinese protesters surrounded the official car of Locke as it came out from the Embassy gate.

The protesters caused minor injury to the vehicle, a statement through the embassy said adding that Locke was safe and not injured.

"Embassy officials have registered their particular concern regarding today's incident using the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Extramarital affairs, and urged the Chinese Government to do everything possible to protect Us facilities and personnel, " the particular statement said.

The car was reportedly mobbed as large lot of people protesting opposite Japanese Embassy over Tokyo's go on to purchase the disputed islands in the East China Sea from a non-public party spilled over towards US Embassy side which was located in the vicinity.

The main streets of the diplomatic enclave at Liangmaqiao here, where the new Indian Embassy is usually located, are filled with protesters for the past few days.

These protesters were allowed to go nearby the Japanese Embassy and throw h2o bottles and eggs at it is gates.

A window of the japanese was damaged when it had been hit a stone yesterday.

Meanwhile, China played down the attack on the US Ambassador's car and mentioned police is investigating the event "seriously".

"Relevant incident is an accidental case and competent authorities are seriously handling the case", Chinese language Foreign Ministry spokesman, Hong Lei informed a media briefing here.

"China is definitely earnestly fulfilling diplomatic obligations within Vienna convention and earnestly safeguarding diplomatic missions and staff in China", Hong said.

Asked additional, Hong said, "I want to point out that China safely protected diplomatic missions and we will handle relevant case in accordance using the law".

Fewer people today took part in the demonstrations as compared with yesterday, which coincided with the 81st anniversary on the Japanese occupation of China.

Reports here also said the vast majority of Japanese stores that were closed for the past few days fearing reprisals from Chinese language protesters re-opened today.
